Reports began swirling early Monday morning that Brian France, Chairman and CEO as well as grandson of NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. was arrested in the Hamptons.
First reports came from TMZ about the arrest, then confirmed by NASCAR officials who have declined comment on the situation.
The reports state that The 56-year-old France was was initially stopped in Sag Harbor, NY while driving a 2017 Lexus. Officers reported France running a stop sign which was the initial cause of the traffic stop. Reports state that France was suspected of driving under the influence and was given a field sobriety test, which officers stated he blew twice the legal limit.
According the police reports, France was searched a the prescription drug oxycodone was found on his person.
France was arrested and taken to a nearby station where he was book for DUI and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree. France spent the night in jail and was released Monday morning after his arraignment.
No details were released if France had a legal prescription for the oxycodone.
The arrest follows the Monster Energy’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Watkins Glen New York.
