Freddies at home kicks off Game of the Week Broadcasts

High School football has ended and the gyms are starting to fill up throughout Ohio as High School basketball takes center stage. The Fredericktown Freddies are looking to bounce back after a 6-17 season last year, they finished the year on a five game losing streak and a tournament loss to Northmor.

The team had three losing streaks in 2016 of atleast four games but half of the Freddies first 12 losses last year came by 7 points or less. The Freddies lost their season opener this year to Lucas 66-57. The team will be without graduated Jake Booth who averaged 17 points a game last year but they will return Xavier Stallard who was second in the conference in rebounding last year at 8.8 a game. The team’s leading returning scorer is Nick Cunningham at 9 points a game.

The Freddies are in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference. The team was just 3-8 at home last year and that’s where they will be Wednesday Night versus Worthington Christian. The Warriors lost their season opener to Johnstown by 15 before defeating Gahanna Christian 84-32 Monday Night, they outscored Gahanna Christian 27-11 in the opening quarter and 37-8 in the second half.

The Warriors are trying to replace Division Three District Player of the Year Jay Joseph, he averaged 16 points a game last year for a team that went 20-6 and won a district title.

Fredericktown Coach Derek Dibling’s comments:

On loss to Lucas: “We have alot of things to improve on from that game”

On non conference game importance: “We want to use these games to get better”

On their opponent Worthington Christian: “They are an athletic team with size and speed”

Keys to the Game: “Must improve defensively, get some easy buckets in transition, get to the foul line and be more efficient from the foul line”
