Bond Denied for Delaware Man indicted on Aggravated Murder Charge

BOND DENIED FOR DELAWARE MAN INDICTED ON AGGRAVATED MURDER CHARGE

Bryan Stanton Pemberton was denied bail today at his arraignment hearing in Delaware County Common Pleas Court.

“We believe Pemberton is a danger to the community and to his ex girlfriend, Abby Scherler,” said Delaware County Prosecutor Carol O’Brien. “As such, we requested bond be denied in his case, and that he remain behind bars until trial.”

Pemberton was charged with aggravated murder after law enforcement responded to a shots fired call on January 25, 2018.

“Just before 7 p.m. officers responded to 994 Stratford Road, behind the Byers Ford Dealership on Columbus Pike,” said O’Brien. “On scene there was a deceased male in the driver’s seat of a Dodge Charger with what appeared to be two gunshot wounds.”

The victim is identified as 28-year-old Ali Al Azirjawi of Hilliard. Al Azirjawi had driven his fiancée, Catherine “Abby” Scherler to Pemberton’s home in order to pick up her daughter.

Pemberton entered a not guilty plea in court today. His attorney indicated he will be filing a motion to enter a not guilty by insanity plea.

A trial date was set for April 24, 2018.
